       The woolly mammoths that once roamed the Yukon, Canada, are long extinct. However, tusks have been unearthed from ancient riverbeds by present-day mining operations. The tusks range in size from small pieces to eleven feet in length. While they lay in the Yukon's earth, they underwent a process of mineralization, which imbued them with an indescribable variety of colours.

    Mosaic art, although it has been known for centuries, until recently has been a fading art form. Tom Chant, in his own version of the ancient art of mosaic, enhances the natural beauty of the mammoth ivory with the addition of precious and semi-precious stones, creation an original art object of lasting value and elegance.
