This seed pot is an original and contemporary
piece of Iroquois pottery. Seed pots were used to store and
protect seeds over the winter and in the spring “Blessing of the
seeds” ceremony. The humming birds and butterflys symbolize the
beauty and fascination of life as they always capture our
attention. They help in the pollination of the woodland flowers or
abstract floral designs. The floral designs symbolize life,
health, growth and fertility. The sculptured feathers in the
circle symbolize the continuous life cycle of the circle is
sacred. All life in the universe evolves and rejuvenates through
cycles. The blending of the linear with the spherical designs
symbolizes the harmonious and prolific order of the laws and
forces of nature.
