This
is an original and contemporary piece of Iroquois pottery. The
decorated rim shows the circle symbolizing a sacred and continuous
life cycle of renewal. The earth is part of an infinity (universe)
of dynamic, harmonious and prolific order continuously
rejuvenation and evolving through life cycles. The spider’s web
is symbolic of all things being connected or related to each
other. Human beings are only one strand in the web of life. In
some native legends a female spider (spider woman) taught the
people to weave baskets, clothing and nets, symbolizing strength
and durability in the blending or weave, on the back is a very
modern, abstract designs, a collage. The woman represents the
earth as being female or mother and the blending of the linear
with the spherical designs symbolizes the harmonious and prolific
order of the laws and forces of nature on earth.
